Organic Field Days 2025 on the
organic farm Wassergut Canitz

Wassergut Canitz GmbH, No. 42, 04808 Wasewitz

The Organic Field Days, Germany’s most important trade and presence platform for organic farming, will take place for the first time in Saxony in 2025 on the land of the Wassergut Canitz GmbH organic farm. The close link between organic farming and the protection of drinking water is a key issue here.

Background Canitz water estate

Wassergut Canitz GmbH has been an organic farm since 1992 and works according to the guidelines of the organic farming association. The GmbH was founded in 1994 as a subsidiary of Leipziger Wasserwerke. The company’s most important goal is to protect the drinking water resources in the catchment area of the waterworks in Canitz, Thallwitz and Naunhof. The focus is on environmental protection and soil fertility. Organic plant and animal products are produced there on a total area of 800 hectares. This is done without the addition of synthetic chemical fertilizers. This ensures that no impurities get into the drinking water.

And this principle of drinking water protection is bearing fruit. Thanks to the targeted, environmentally friendly management of the particularly sensitive areas that are essential for the waterworks’ wells, the nitrate levels in the groundwater have now been significantly reduced.

You can find more information about Wassergut Canitz GmbH on the website of Wasserwerke Leipzig. You can also get a further insight in the following film about Wassergut Canitz GmbHwhich was produced as part of the project “Initiative Groundwater Protection through Organic Farming” on behalf of the government of Lower Franconia.

This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon state parliament.

Kick-off event on 17.04.2023 in Canitz Park

The Free State of Saxony is funding the Organic Field Days 2025. Preparations for the event began with the kick-off event on 17.04.2023 in Canitz Park. The Minister of State responsible for energy, climate, environment and agriculture, Wolfram Günther, handed over the funding decision at the launch event and spoke about resilience and water protection through organic farming.

Minister of State Günther: “It will be crucial for our future, not only in Saxony, that agriculture is economically successful and at the same time can meet the necessary high standards of environmental, soil, water and animal protection. The Organic Field Days show ways to achieve this. We are therefore very pleased that the Organic Field Days 2025 in Saxony will take place on the land of Wassergut Canitz GmbH, an organic farm in a water protection area.”

Many high-ranking representatives from politics, business, society and agriculture were present at the launch event in Thallwitz.
