Inno­va­tions play an important role at the Orga­nic Field Days in explo­ring emer­ging trends. The inno­va­tions at our ‘Inno­va­ti­on Show’ demons­tra­te new inven­ti­ons from the tech­ni­cal field as well as new sys­tem approa­ches which also inclu­de new pro­pul­si­on tech­no­lo­gies – with electric engi­nes lea­ding the way.

The ang­le-adjus­ta­ble hol­low discs in com­bi­na­ti­on with pro­tra­c­tors offer the pos­si­bi­li­ty of hoeing young plants very ear­ly and very tight­ly. Rota­pull com­bi­nes wrought coul­ter tools with a rotor. Its deve­lo­pers have crea­ted a new ope­ra­ting princip­le com­bi­ning a simp­le con­struc­tion with high power and fle­xi­ble adap­t­ati­on to dif­fe­rent con­di­ti­ons. The­se values can help to make crop manage­ment decisi­ons. The robot, powe­red through an electric motor, moves with a sys­tem that inclu­des GPS gui­d­ance, came­ras and lasers. Groß­ro­bo­ter (Lar­ge-sca­le robot) DinoKULT / Naio TechnologiesNaio Tech­no­lo­gies is cur­r­ent­ly working on a weed robot for lar­ge vege­ta­ble cul­ti­va­tions. The lar­ge robot is equip­ped with GPS and came­ra con­trol and can thus be sca­led to the crop/row spa­cing. Its working width for the beds ran­ges from 1.50 m to 1.80 m. The tools like hoe and har­row are fle­xi­b­ly exch­an­ge­ab­le and can thus be adap­ted to the crops. The aim is to also pre­pa­re the weed­ing robot for other tasks such as sowing and fer­ti­li­sing. It is cur­r­ent­ly still in the pro­to­ty­pe stage.Vege­ta­ble and spe­cial crops

The tines cut like dig­ging forks about 25 cm deep into the soil. This loo­sens and enlar­ges the soil sur­face again, so that rain­wa­ter drains off more slow­ly. Grim­me TerraProtect GRIMME Land­ma­schi­nen­fa­brik
The Grim­me Ter­ra­Pro­tect crea­tes trans­ver­se embank­ments bet­ween the pota­to rid­ges, which redu­ce the risk of ero­si­on and at the same time pro­mo­te water infil­tra­ti­on. Tines at the very front of the machi­ne loo­sen the soil which also incre­a­ses the water infil­tra­ti­on. Mulch-Pflanz-Maschi­ne (Mul­ching-Plan­ting-Machi­ne)Live2giveThe recent­ly deve­lo­ped Mulch­T­ec plan­ting tech­no­lo­gy makes it pos­si­ble to plant young vege­ta­ble plants mecha­ni­cal­ly into a clo­sed mulch cover. The mulch lay­er is cut by a cut­ting device, after­wards the plant is pla­ced into the hole and the mulch cover is clo­sed again by pres­su­re rol­lers. Sen­so­ren­sys­tem Bie­nen­ge­sund­heit (Bee health sen­sor system) Uni­ver­si­tät KasselThe moni­to­ring sys­tem has been deve­lo­ped to sup­port the manage­ment of bee health and pro­duc­ti­vi­ty. The sys­tem con­sists of several moni­to­ring units for data collec­tion and a con­trol unit for mobi­le power sup­ply. Each moni­to­ring unit con­sists of a mini­com­pu­ter and several sen­sors that record para­me­ters con­cer­ning the colo­ny and the envi­ron­ment at spe­ci­fic time inter­vals (e.g. weight of the colo­ny, tem­pe­ra­tu­re and humi­di­ty in the apia­ry and out­side, noi­se). The orga­nic farm Hes­si­sche Staats­do­mä­ne Glad­bach­er­hof is loca­ted 60 km sou­thwest from the city of Gie­ßen in the north wes­tern foot­hills of the Tau­nus Moun­tains in Cen­tral Ger­ma­ny. The farm is cer­ti­fied orga­nic sin­ce 1983 and has been a mem­ber of Bio­land sin­ce 1989. Sin­ce 1990 this farm is a rese­arch insti­tu­te of the Jus­tus-Lie­big-Uni­ver­si­ty of Gießen.

The rese­arch insti­tu­te mana­ges about 190 ha of land, and focu­ses on cere­al seed pro­pa­ga­ti­on, pota­to pro­pa­ga­ti­on and dai­ry far­ming. The farm cul­ti­va­tes 110 ha of ara­ble land, and 75 ha of grassland.

Main goal of the dai­ry pro­duc­tion is lon­ge­vi­ty of the herd ins­tead of tem­pora­ri­ly high milk yiel­ds. The farm has 90 Hol­stein-Fri­sian dai­ry cows and in addi­ti­on 100 lay­ing hens.

Rese­arch aims among others lie on dif­fe­rent crop rota­ti­ons in orga­nic far­ming, the influ­ence of inten­si­fi­ca­ti­on of soil cul­ti­va­ti­on, qua­li­ty of wheat pro­te­ins, legu­me cul­ti­va­ti­on and long term effects on nut­ri­ent cycles in orga­nic far­ming sys­tems. In addi­ti­on to rese­arch machine­ry for field expe­ri­ments the farm runs an labo­ra­to­ry for the exami­na­ti­on of plant and soil samples.

The Uni­ver­si­ty of Gie­ßen plans to estab­lish two agro­fo­res­try sites in order to inves­ti­ga­te in sus­tainab­le and resi­li­ent far­ming sys­tems. Also orga­nic mat­ter con­tents, and adap­ted far­ming sys­tems to adapt and cope with cli­ma­te chan­ge are in focus of cur­rent stu­dies app­lied at Glad­bach­er­hof. Tho­se rese­arch acti­vi­ties will be pre­sen­ted at the Öko-Feld­ta­ge 2022.

The farm is the cent­re of the Öko-Feld­ta­ge. Visi­tors can visit the are­as and explo­re the methods of tea­ching and rese­ar­ching. A dai­ry herd and lay­ing hens in mobi­le barns are demons­tra­ting modern ani­mal husbandry.

The FiBL Pro­jek­te GmbH is the orga­ni­ser of the Öko-Feld­ta­ge 2022, which are co-orga­nis­ed by the Hes­si­an Minis­try of Agri­cul­tu­re (HMUKLV), the Uni­ver­si­ty of Gie­ßen with the Hes­si­an Sta­te Doma­ne Glad­bach­er­hof, the Agri­cul­tu­ral Sta­te Office (LLH) and the Foun­da­ti­on for Eco­lo­gy and Agri­cul­tu­re (SÖL).

The initia­ti­ve for the first Öko-Feld­ta­ge in 2017 came from the SÖL and FiBL, who joint­ly hos­ted the event.

The Bund Öko­lo­gi­sche Lebens­mit­tel­wirt­schaft (BÖLW) is the patron of the event.
