The Öko-Feldtage 2025 at Wassergut Canitz near Leipzig will focus on sustainable water management in agriculture. On June 18 and 19, visitors can also find out about the latest developments in organic plant cultivation, animal husbandry and the conversion to organic production. The focus will be on innovative technology, new varieties and practical knowledge for the entire agricultural sector. Saxony’s Minister of Agriculture Georg-Ludwig von Breitenbuch will open the event.
“Together with all our partners, we are making Wassergut Canitz the central meeting place for organic farming in Saxony for the first time. Researchers and practitioners will discuss with politicians and associations in exciting forums what organic agriculture needs now in order to grow and develop further,” says Carsten Veller, Head of Communications and Networking at FiBL Projekte GmbH. “With over 360 exhibitors, we have set a record this year. We are also offering even more digital technology and a newly designed exhibition area on animal husbandry. The Öko-Feldtage have also developed into an important agricultural policy forum where politicians enter into dialog with business and practitioners. Many events focus on the young generation. Companies and young talents can come together at job speed dating, and young representatives from various associations and organizations can discuss the future of organic farming at the “Green Youth Together” meeting.”
Save water, protect groundwater
This year’s main theme of “water” is reflected in over 40 program items, including agroforestry systems, various irrigation methods, guided tours of forest pastures and the Canitz waterworks. “Gentle soil cultivation, adapted crop rotations and varieties as well as extensive animal husbandry: at the Öko-Feldtage, we will be showcasing our water conservation-oriented farming methods and many exhibitors will be presenting their technology and advisory services,” says Dr. Bernhard Wagner, Managing Director of Wassergut Canitz, a subsidiary of Leipziger Wasserwerke, which has been operating successfully and economically in a water-conserving manner for over 30 years.
Two further events will take place before the Öko-Feldtage. From June 16 to 18, the Organic Future Camp 2025 (OFC), initiated and financed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Home Affairs (BMLEH), invites young people between the ages of 16 and 32 to actively help shape the organic agriculture and food industry of tomorrow. The results will be presented to the BMLEH and the industry at the Öko-Feldtage 2025 on June 18.
How can sustainable water conservation in agriculture succeed? The “Water Congress Compact”, organized by FiBL Germany and the Saxon State Ministry of the Environment and Agriculture (SMUL), will bring together agriculture, politics, water management and research in the run-up to the Öko-Feldtage on 17 June 2025.
