The postponement of the Organic Field Days due to the pandemic has at least one advantage: “The construction of the new dairy barn at Gladbacherhof is progressing. We are still optimistic that we will be able to present it at the Öko-Feldtage,” says farm manager Johannes Eisert. The barn will offer space for up to 128 cows and will make it possible to divide the herd. The scientists from Giessen want to investigate the complex effects of organic high and low-input milk production on animals, plants and the environment. In addition, all material flows on both the input and output side are recorded separately for both herds. Automatic feeding and milking systems measure these material flows precisely. “The milking and feeding technology has now arrived at the Gladbacherhof and will be installed soon,” says Eisert.
