In recent weeks, our trial technicians have sown around 800 plots: both for the exhibitors and for the Justus Liebig University Giessen, the long-term arable farming trial, the national variety trials and performance tests. These are mainly winter cereals such as wheat, barley, rye and triticale as well as winter crops of grain legumes such as field beans, peas and some mixtures. Watering the already sown plots in September was a good decision, as the crops are now well developed. The subsequent rain came at just the right time and facilitated further sowing. The emerged weeds could be controlled well with the harrow. Catch crops of green rye, winter vetches and winter peas will be used next year to demonstrate a planting machine for vegetables in a mulch system. Some of the forage legume-grass mixtures for the cut-pasture utilization systems did not emerge well due to the drought and had to be reseeded. The only thing left to do now is to sow the paths. This is due to take place in a few days in order to ensure that the subsoil is as stable as possible and the sward as dense as possible next year.
