Special topic: Efficient irrigation
Many dry summers in recent years have made efficient irrigation increasingly important. On a practical area of around one hectare, the Ministry of Food, Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection, in cooperation with the University of Hohenheim, the horticultural state institutes and suppliers of irrigation technology, will be presenting various system solutions for efficient irrigation methods and irrigation planning options.
“Thanks to our good soil, we have been able to do without irrigation for the most part so far,” says Daniel Grieshaber, the farm manager responsible for field vegetable cultivation, who grows 25 hectares of field vegetables every year, adding: “However, the previous system is increasingly reaching its limits. Due to the lack of irrigation infrastructure at the site, practical and efficient solutions are needed that can manage with comparatively small amounts of water and low water pressure.” We will be presenting these in practical application at the Öko-Feldtage.
