The start of the Organic Field Days in Villmar on June 28 shows the industry’s great interest in concepts for sustainable agriculture. The Hessian Minister of Agriculture Priska Hinz and the Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem \u00d6zdemir opened the major innovation show on organic plant cultivation and animal husbandry at the Hessian state domain Gladbacherhof. Until tomorrow, researchers and practitioners will be discussing with politicians what organic farming needs now to grow healthily.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The Organic Field Days show forward-looking solutions to the climate crisis for the entire agricultural sector,” said Hessian Minister of Agriculture Priska Hinz at the opening of the Organic Field Days, which took place on the staircase built especially for the Field Days. Here, visitors get an immediate impression of the Gladbacherhof’s low mountain location. “We must not forget the biodiversity and climate crisis in the face of the global food security crisis,” appeals Hinz and is convinced that “the expansion of organic farming is the right answer for our future.” The climate and how to deal with heat, drought and heavy rainfall will be the focus of the climate theme at the Organic Field Days: For example, 1,200 trees that have been planted on Gladbacherhof’s grassland and arable land in recent years will help to reduce erosion damage and increase biodiversity in the fields. In the research barn, highly automated technology enables the scientists to measure climate-damaging gases. They compare the results with different feed compositions. <\/p>\n

Pilgrimage site for sustainability<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The \u00d6ko-Feldtage are a real pilgrimage site for sustainability. I warmly congratulate the organizers on this very successful trade fair,” says Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem \u00d6zdemir and adds: “It is impressive to see the innovations from practice and research on offer to visitors at the Gladbacher Hof. With the topic of climate, the Eco-Field Days are setting exactly the right focus in these crisis-ridden times. And show in animal husbandry and plant cultivation how organic farming can contribute to solving all crises. That is why it is also very important to me that we have made organic farming our guiding principle for sustainable agriculture and are sticking to our goal of 30 percent organic farming by 2030.”
\nCarsten Veller is very satisfied with the start of the Organic Field Days. “Everyone now knows the \u00d6ko-Feldtage as the meeting place for organic farming, where technology and tradition have their place and representatives from practice, research, politics and business pursue the same goal: To further develop organic farming as the right answer to our future. We must now work together to create concepts on how organic farming can achieve rapid growth without selling out its ideals. The Organic Field Days will present many possible solutions. <\/p>\n

Award ceremony with Cem \u00d6zdemir<\/strong>
\nFor the first time, the award ceremony for the Federal Organic Farming Competition took place as part of the \u00d6ko-Feldtage. Cem \u00d6zdemir presented the awards to organic farms that have been particularly successful in organic farming with pioneering concepts. This year’s winners are: the Demeter farm Biohof Bursch, De \u00d6ko Melkburen from Lentf\u00f6hrden and the non-profit GmbH live2give. From the outset, the event has been designed in such a way that its focus is always adapted to the respective location. This year, they are being held for the first time at the Gladbacherhof organic mixed farm in a typical low mountain location. The 190-hectare farm focuses on seed production (cereals) and milk production. 110 hectares are farmed as arable land and 75 hectares as permanent grassland. Research activities focus on the resilience of agricultural systems, such as the optimization of crop rotation and soil cultivation. <\/p>\n

Organic farming on 20 hectares<\/strong>
\n330 companies, associations and organizations present seeds, agricultural technology, farm inputs, animal feed, stable construction, advisory services and much more. The program of the Organic Field Days will showcase new developments in organic plant cultivation and animal husbandry in a mixture of practice and research. Visitors can see 16 predominantly camera-controlled hoeing machines as well as innovations in the areas of cupping and forage harvesting in practical use. 20 examples of innovations will show prototypes and new developments. Climate is a key topic at the Eco-Field Days 2022. At around 20 stations, scientists will demonstrate the challenges facing agriculture and possible solutions such as agroforestry areas and mulch vegetable cultivation. <\/p>\n

The latest findings on challenges such as organic breeding, carbon farming and animal welfare will be addressed and discussed in six forums. Companies, breeders and consultants will also be presenting more than 120 crops and 500 varieties on numerous demo plots. Exhibitors on the topic of animal husbandry and the LLH Stable Talks forum will present themselves in the vicinity of the new research barn. Topics include intensity levels in organic milk production, 100% organic feed, livestock farming of the future and the coexistence of wolves and grazing animals. Every day, visitors can also choose from numerous guided tours on the construction of new stables, landrace trials, agroforestry, organic and green compost and fodder production. <\/p>\n

Organization & organizers<\/strong><\/p>\n

The strong team of partners is organizing the 2022 event in largely proven cooperation. FiBL Projekte GmbH organizes the Organic Field Days. Co-organizers are the Hessian Ministry of Agriculture and the Justus Liebig University Giessen with the Hessian State Domain Gladbacherhof as well as the Hessian State Farm and the Foundation for Ecology and Agriculture. The B\u00d6LW is the patron of the event. The Hessian Ministry of Agriculture will once again support the event financially in 2022 as part of the Eco Action Plan. The REWE Group is a gold sponsor of the Eco-Field Days 2022. <\/p>\n
