EU Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen presented his vision for the future of EU agricultural policy last week. This includes the continuous expansion of organic farming until 2030. The \u00d6ko-Feldtage 2025 show how innovative approaches can advance organic farming. On June 18 and 19, more than 310 exhibitors will present solutions and perspectives for sustainable agriculture at the Canitz water estate in Saxony. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Hansen is focusing on a more voluntary approach, which should give farms more scope for decision-making. Farmers are the main target group of the \u00d6ko-Feldtage, which will take place for the fifth time in June. “There is a lot of uncertainty on the farms. The \u00d6ko-Feldtage offer a perfect platform for gathering information and exchanging ideas in order to make better decisions for the future,” says Vera Bruder, Managing Director of FiBL Projekte GmbH, explaining the aims of the trade fair. The main topic this time focuses on water management in agriculture. New irrigation techniques, soil-conserving cultivation or adapted crop rotation can contribute to water conservation. On the “Future Dialogue” stage, practitioners, researchers and politicians will discuss solution strategies for water conservation and agriculture. <\/p>\n

Highlights include over 40 machine demonstrations on the topics of inter-row and intra-row hoeing, harrowing, soil cultivation (alfalfa plowing) and forage harvesting. Exhibitors will be showcasing new autonomous agricultural machinery in a special area. <\/p>\n

Diversity as an opportunity<\/h2>\n

Regardless of how the political framework conditions develop in the coming months, farms are more resilient the more versatile they are. This applies to multi-layered crop rotations, adapted agricultural technology, the development of different marketing channels, but also the commitment of young people on the farms. These are all areas that are given a lot of space at the \u00d6ko-Feldtage. <\/p>\n

For the first time, the \u00d6ko-Feldtage will be preceded by two other events on June 17. The Organic Future Camp at the \u00d6ko-Feldtage site is aimed at the future generation, while the Water Congress in Leipzig focuses on the topic of water and agriculture. <\/p>\n

Background<\/h2>\n

The nationwide \u00d6ko-Feldtage<\/strong> are a two-day meeting place for all farmers who want to find out about new methods for environmentally friendly agriculture. The event offers players from the entire sector an ideal platform to discuss current topics with farmers and representatives from politics and business. The Innovation Show shows where organic farming stands and where it is heading. <\/p>\n

The program of the \u00d6ko-Feldtage offers a mixture of practice and research in organic crop production and organic animal husbandry. In demonstrations, visitors can see machines in practical use. Innovation examples show prototypes and new developments. <\/p>\n

A cultural program and culinary, regional delicacies in organic quality round off the program. The organizer of the \u00d6ko-Feldtage is FiBL Projekte GmbH.<\/p>\n

Wassergut Canitz GmbH<\/strong> has been an organic farm since 1992 and works according to the guidelines of the organic farming association. The GmbH was founded in 1994 as a subsidiary of Leipziger Wasserwerke. The company’s most important goal is to protect the drinking water resources in the catchment area of the waterworks in Canitz, Thallwitz and Naunhof. The focus is on environmental protection, soil fertility and groundwater recharge. Organic plant and animal products are produced on a total area of 850 hectares. This is done without the addition of synthetic chemical fertilizers. This ensures that no impurities get into the drinking water.<\/p>\n
