The first day of the Organic Field Days on June 14 demonstrated the diverse potential of organic farming. Peter Hauk MdL, Minister for Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection, opened the event with exhibitors and visitors from all over Germany and beyond. Interested parties can still find out about innovations and developments in organic farming this Thursday. With almost 350 exhibitors, more companies are presenting themselves at this year’s \u00d6ko-Feldtage than ever before. <\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

“The organization of the \u00d6ko-Feldtage in Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg is a nationwide highlight. This is where the who’s who from the organic farming sector and practitioners from all over Germany come together. We need lighthouses like this to help shape the future of organic farming. We therefore support and accompany the Organic Field Days in Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg in order to bring the sector together and show what organic farming has to offer,” said Minister for Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection Peter Hauk MdL in his speech yesterday at the opening of the Organic Field Days at the Grieshaber and Schmid organic farm in Ditzingen-Hirschlanden. “Here, all future topics of agriculture are demonstrated in theory and practice in the field and discussed in various forums. Farmers will find innovative solutions to current challenges at the Organic Field Days,” emphasized Minister Hauk.
\nWith Silvia Bender, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), and other opening guests, Hauk addressed current pressing issues: for example, how to deal with climate change and ways to promote regional value creation. Afterwards, all those interested set off on a tour of the trade fair, which revealed a wide range of solutions. These included efficient, resource- and soil-conserving irrigation and chopping technology in field vegetable cultivation and the dual use of resources in the form of agrivoltaics. Finally, Dr. Karl Kempkens from the BMEL used examples from the cities of Karlsruhe and Freiburg to report on what constitutes successful organic value chains. <\/p>\n

Award ceremony with Silvia Bender<\/strong>
\nIn the afternoon, State Secretary Silvia Bender presented the prizes of the Federal Organic Farming Competition. This year’s winners were the arable farm M\u00fchlenhof in Halle (North Rhine-Westphalia), the farm Hof Ritzleben in Arendsee (Saxony-Anhalt) and the working and living community “Alles im Gr\u00fcnen Bereich e.V.” in Niederkaufungen (Hesse). <\/p>\n

“We are very pleased with how the Organic Field Days got off to a good start this year,” says Paulina Gundlach, Project Manager Communications & Human Resources, adding: “The atmosphere is simply fantastic. People from politics, practice, research and business come together here, exchange ideas and take away new impetus for sustainable agriculture.” <\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Background<\/strong>
\nThis year, the Organic Field Days are taking place for the first time in Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg and for the first time on a private farm. The modern organic farm Grieshaber & Schmid in Ditzingen-Hirschlanden focuses on arable farming, field vegetable cultivation and dairy farming. These and other topics are also reflected in the varied program of the Organic Field Days. <\/p>\n

The event is a two-day meeting point for all organic farmers and all farmers who want to convert or are looking for new methods for environmentally friendly agriculture. It offers players from the entire sector an ideal platform to discuss current topics with farmers and representatives from politics and business. The innovation show shows where organic farming stands and where it is heading.
\nThe program of the Organic Field Days offers a mixture of practice and research in organic plant cultivation and animal husbandry. In demonstrations, visitors can see machines in practical use. Examples of innovations show prototypes and new developments. <\/p>\n

Field vegetable cultivation is a particular focus of this year’s Eco Field Days. In demonstrations, both tractor-guided and autonomous hoes will show what they can do on a slightly sloping terrain in a celery stand. Right next door, experts will explain which irrigation systems are suitable for field vegetables and this location, and how efficient and economical they are. <\/p>\n

Wide variety in the program and trade exhibition<\/strong>
\nChallenges such as improving animal welfare, 30% organic and dealing with new genetic engineering will be addressed and discussed in forums. Numerous demo plots will showcase new cereal and legume varieties, heat-tolerant crops such as millet and chickpeas, catch crops and much more. Companies and associations will be presenting their equipment and advisory services. In the area surrounding the modern dairy cattle barn, exhibitors will be presenting all aspects of animal husbandry. Experts will also be demonstrating various aspects of organic potato cultivation. They will show over 20 different varieties. <\/p>\n

Model systems will be presented as part of the Agri-PV special. Practitioners and experts will also shed light on all current issues relating to agri-PV in practice and research. <\/p>\n

The organizer of the Organic Field Days is FiBL Projekte GmbH. Co-organizers are the Ministry of Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg (MLR), the organic farm Grieshaber & Schmid and the Foundation for Ecology and Agriculture. The B\u00d6LW is the patron of the event. The MLR is sponsoring the Organic Field Days 2023. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
